	Old Frio City Jail. Built in 1872, it is said that some of the more famous occupants of this jail were: Sam Bass, Jesse & Frank James, and O'Henry (William Sydney Porter).

	The attached picture was supposedly taken in Dilley, but I'm not sure when. My grandfather is the man between the fourth and fifth woman from the right. His name was Lawrence Frances Merl. I have been told that he was once the Mayor of Pearsall and his wife Florence Merl was the publisher and editor of the Dilley Harold. I have also found that my other grandfather owned 126 acres of land in Frio country in 1910. S. W. Williams.
	The attached photo taken in the late 1800's or early 1900's is either the old drug store or possibly the general store in Moore, Texas. Contributed by Cindy Allen. If anyone knows the occupants in the picture or anything about it, please contact her.

	Dear John,   This is a photo of Charles Bishop Woodward and Ida Beatrice Slaughter with their infant daughter (Carrie) Caroline Edith Woodward. Since Carrie was born in late November 1896, this photo was probably taken in the following Spring (due to the seemingly good weather). Charles was born November 2, 1873 to Caven Woodward and Julia Newton Woodward in Atascosa Co. Ida was born September 22, 1876 to Billie Slaughter and Caroline Vickers Slaughter. Carrie married (Bill) Wm. Fielding Thompson, Jr. in 1917 and remained in Pearsall for the rest of her life. If you have any further questions or have other information to share, please contact me. Again, thanks for all you do for us. Dad and I are planning a trip to Pearsall and surrounding area sometime in the Spring. Would like to meet you and "see whatcha got"! Dad is 88 years old and was born and raised in the Pearsall area--he has tales; he has tales!!! And he loves to share--but he prefers the verbal approach to sharing. Carol Woodward Noble
	Cowboys of the Past - Tafolla, Vinton, Mancha, contributed by Joe Tafolla   Crescencio and Juan Vinton were brothers. Their grandmother was Carmelita Mancha. She was the wife of Jake Vinton, who was sheriff of Frio County from February 1876 until November 1878.   Jimmy and Manuel Tafolla were brothers. Their grandfather was Jose Mancha, who was Carmelita's brother. Peter Mancha's sister, Antonia, was mother to the Tafolla's.   Jimmy Tafolla died in an accident while quite young. Others in the picture, however, worked in cattle ranches in Frio County until the '50s. Manuel Tafolla and Crescencio (Chito) Vinton worked at adjoining ranches southeast of Laredo during the '30s and moved to the Frio Town area during the '40s and again worked adjoining ranches. During large cattle roundups, it was a common site to see Pete Mancha and Juan Vinton join them. These four men would form the nucleus for a no-nonsense team of cowboys containing 20-25 men whose job it was to process cattle to market.   I have very fond memories of riding trail with them on several cattle drives across the wooded country pastures, and one of driving cattle along the road from the Carrie Thompson ranch on the Frio River to the stock pens in Pearsall sometime between 1945 and 1948. Life could not get any better than that for a boy not yet in his teens! (Joe Tafolla)
	Some Texas Heroes, picture taken in San Antonio, circa 1887. contributed by Joe Tafolla (l-r) 1. Pete Tafolla - Santiago's son. Rode broncs with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. 2. Santiago Tafolla, Sr. - Served as bugler with U.S. 2nd Cavalry, 1855-1860; was bugler with Confederate States of America, Texas 33rd Cavalry, 1863-64; Methodist preacher in Texas and Mexico, 1870-1911. Served San Pablo Methodist Church in Pearsall in 1901. 3. J.J. Mercado - Santiago's stepson 4. Santiago Tafolla, Jr. - Led fight for civil rights in San Antonio during the 1920's; helped organize and was a charter member of LULAC. 5. Ernesto Tafolla - Santiago's son. Became in preacher in the Houston area. 6. Lalo Mejia 7. Mariano Tafolla - Santiago's son. Lived in the Poteet area. 8. Lott Tafolla - Santiago's son. 9. Gabriel Dimas Tafolla - Santiago's son. Taught English in Uvalde's Hispanic schools at the age of 17 before moving to Roma, Texas where he also taught school. He moved to Monterrey, Mexico to work as a bookkeeper for a lumber yard before 1900 but only remained a couple of years. He returned to the United States and became a farmer in Frio Town (Frio County), Texas, before moving to Pearsall where he became an interpreter for the Frio County courts. He organized and presided over the Order of the Sons of America, a civil rights organization in Pearsall that later merged with another organization to form what is now known as the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). He died on January 1, 1945.

	This is a picture of my father's and mother's class picture, Dilly HS Class of 1927. The names were recalled by my mother and I hope they are all correct. The gentleman at the far left is not identified. Top Row: Floy Stevens, Jewel King, Celia Ellis. Middle Row: O. D. Burnet. Jewel Mathews, Ruth Merl, Vivian Carroll. Bottom Row: Lynn Newsome, Hazel Baker, Thellma Jacobs, Lonnie Williams. Ruth Merl and Lonnie Williams later married and are my parents. 	School Photo ca. 1920. John, I have attached a picture that we just scanned. The picture has suffered some damage along the way, but still identifiable. I believe the picture originally was my grandmother's (Nettie Abigail Jones Shoemake), so I think it could be a Big Foot school photo. I think two of the boys on the front row are Shoemakes, but otherwise can't identify anyone. The picture would have been taken in the early 1920's. I would like to have it posted to the Frio County site to see if someone can identify it. Thanks, Ann Bowman
