Fannin CEMETERY-aka LIVE OAK, aka Oakwood, Fannin, Goliad County, Texas

    The final on site documentation and transcription of Fannin Cemetery was performed by, Douglas E. Anderson and D. E. Anderson of La Porte, TX, and F.P. Hopson of Weimar, TX (formally of Newton Co., TX), on Saturday, November 27, 2004. It was documented utilizing as a primary source, a video camera with digital still imagery, complimented with a 35mm camera, and handwritten notes. The Fannin Cemetery is located by turning northwest off of Highway 59 onto Cemetery Road (marked)in Fannin, TX. It is located to the right off of Cemetery Road, approximately 1.5 miles northwest of the town of Fannin, Goliad County, Texas. This is a truly historical and older cemetery, appearing to have graves that were not identified. It exhibited several large cedar trees estimated to be over 150-200 years old and a magnificent oak tree, located near the northeast corner, estimated to be 300-400 years of age. It is fenced and appears to lack routine maintenance, as there was evidence of vandalism and desecration of several gravesites. It has no identifying sign indicating it is the Fannin Cemetery of Fannin, Texas. The entrance is a double wide, hinged, chain link fence gate. The cemetery appeared to be organized with concrete borders used as a perimeter for sections and plot divisions.  God Bless America Douglas E. Anderson, Nov 27, 2004

The format of this transcription is as follows: Last Name, First Name, Middle Name, Nick Name , Marker Type (Mkr), Date of Birth (In some instances only one date was inscribed on the marker and is unknown if this is the date of birth, death, and/or both.), Date of Death, Inscriptions on the marker (quotations)and Comments by the transcriptionist. Also, if no name, birth or death date was inscribed on the marker, an nd (no date) or a blank was utilized, and the listed gravesite was accompanied by a description detailing the current marker in place at the time of this transcription. In several cases, due to the deterioration and age of the marker, the ground cover obscuring gravesites, transcriptions were not forthcoming and may or may not be noted in the comments.  Additionally, the following abbreviations with their translations are utilized to identify the "Mkr" Marker Type:

     fhm = single marker, metal funeral home stake type marker, memorializing one individual internment site.
   sgl = single marker, memorializing a one individual internment site.
   dbl = double marker, memorializing two individual internment sites.
   tri = triple marker, memorializing three individual internment sites.
   nd  = no date
