Harwood Brick Warehouse on St. Michael St. at the old A. Fisher homestead, workmen unearthed a number of human skeletons. Remains were found in an area 2 ft. wide, runs north and south, & the bodies found at depth of from 2 to 3 ft. deep. Area is 30 ft. long. At least 19 different & distinct remains of humans were found - all in advanced stages of decay - easily crumbled. Some think [there] must have been a serious battle near the city; could be Indians of Mexicans; maybe a French expedition. The remains give evidence of hasty burial. The only skull that could be removed whole was given to the Inquirer. It is rather small, retreating forehead, unusually thick; teeth are in fair state of preservation.
