Brassell, Dr. T.C. of Cost bought a red automobile; relying on his own skill as chauffer, took "the red devil" out for a trial run. He was bowling along at a lively clip until he reached a stretch of country that had been fenced. Losing control of the machine, he ran violently into a four-string fence and pulled up eight posts. That was automobiling enough for one day & he promptly turned his machine over to Elmo Mathieu with instructions to tame it. The tires on the front wheels, coming in contact with the wire fence, required surgical attention and the Dr. had them bandaged after closing them with several stitches." Pg. 3 July 12, 1907

Daily Inquirer Friday, April 7, 1905 p. 3: Human Skeletons Found
While digging the foundation of the T.F. Harwood Brick Warehouse on St. Michael St. at the old A. Fisher homestead, workmen unearthed a number of human skeletons. Remains were found in an area 2 ft. wide, runs north and south, & the bodies found at depth of from 2 to 3 ft. deep. Area is 30 ft. long. At least 19 different & distinct remains of humans were found - all in advanced stages of decay - easily crumbled. Some think [there] must have been a serious battle near the city; could be Indians of Mexicans; maybe a French expedition. The remains give evidence of hasty burial. The only skull that could be removed whole was given to the Inquirer. It is rather small, retreating forehead, unusually thick; teeth are in fair state of preservation. [Additional news published Saturday April 8, 1905, p. 3: More Skeletons Found: A total of 28 separate skeletons found.]
