*Mrs. Sarah Law, nearly 93, oldest citizen in Gonzales, died. Came from London, England in
1849. 16 Jan 1913

*Article from Alabama paper - Mr. W.H. Littleton, formerly of Gonzales, Texas, now of
Swansboro, North Carolina, who was, 50 years ago, a tar heel soldier in 10th N. C. Regiment,
dropped in to see us yesterday, and we exchanged a few recollections of the scenes of our
boyhood with him. 23 Jan 1913

*First High School magazine is published, it is called "The Rocket". 22 Feb 1913

*Word received that Gonzales will have a State Park. "Includes the whole of East Avenue proper
beginning at High School campus end and extends a distance of 3 miles due east." 2 April 1913

*Campbellite Church starts building their new church. 22 April 1913

*Fire destroyed the building, merchandise, and fixtures at Carerton (Caperton?) Saloon at
Harwood. 19 May 1913

*Record time - C.E. Dilworth and his driver Elmo Mathiew left St. Anthony Hotel, San Antonio,
distance of 72 miles, a record breaker speed of above 89 miles per hour, in a Cadillac Roadster
1913 model. 27 May 1913

*Four generation picture, (can't see) Mrs. J.G. McNemar, mrs. W.C. Sorell, maybe Walker Sorell
and Edgar Sorell (These are my relatives. Ms. McNemar my great grandmother - K.S.) 3 June
1913

*John Johnson, colored, was shot and killed by County Attorney N.P. Reid in the courthouse, a
result of an accident. Reid borrowed a 38 automatic pistol and intended to hit Johnson on the
head. It accidently went off and killed him, the bullet struck one of the walls and then embedded
in Mr. W.E. Beall's wrist. (What a mess! K.S.) 10 July 1913

*J.R. Sullivan and Luben Christian fought on the sidewalk in front of J.D. Jones' store. Christian
was cut on the finger and knife blade was buried in his skull. He is now on operating table and
don't know how serious his wound is. Sullivan has a badly crushed head and his condition is not
known. 27 Aug 1913

*Sixteen injured when engine, 3 passenger coaches, one baggage car leave track. Gives names of
some of the injured. 28 Aug 1913

*Fire destroyed the town of Westhoff (DeWitt County), 16 & 17 Sept 1913

*Train wreck two miles east of Gonzales, 3 people injured, result of rails spreading due to rains of
past 48 hours. 1 Oct 1913

*Worst flood in history rages through county, 6 inches higher than in 1869. It (river?) is now 37
feet and 8 inches. People marooned on Mason's Mound. People trying towork to get relief for
them. 3 Oct 1913

*County Fair called off due to floods and rain. 4 Oct 1913
