Big Lake

by Barbara

My father was Scott Junior LEMEILLEUR married to Frances LEMEILLEUR. He was an oil field worker, but we moved to Big Lake and there he and my mom opened a cafe on the main street next to Leftys Pool Hall. We lived across the street from Noble HOLTS Station near the rail road tracks. We often ask ... Whatever happens to the old History of a town. Well I met Charlie SHAFFER the other day here in Austin. His father owned the lumberyard there and we played together as children. Of course we are old now, but our memories of Big Lake have remained with us till this day. I remember when the siren went off and every one ran outside yelling with joy that the war was over. And I remember Miss Ema that watched us kids when mama and daddy were at the cafe. That old cafe used to be the gathering place ... and many a lunch was packed for the oil field workers. Just a bit of history of the old days in Big Lake, Texas.
