Snider Cemetery

This inventory by Dorothy M. Holland appeared in the August 1990 issue of Footprints, the quarterly publication of the Fort Worth Genealogical Society. It is reprinted here with permission.

The cemetery is located some two miles south of Kennedale, about a half mile north and a quarter mile west of the intersection of New Hope Road and Hudson-Village Creek Road. There is no gate, path or road leading to it, nor any evidence that any care has been given for years. The 45 acre pasture (a part of the original Snider grant) belongs to Mrs. J.H. Hudson of Fort Worth. No doubt it was as open space at one time, but the entire area is now covered with trees, brush and brambles. There are a few upright monuments and several broken slabs and fragments. It appears that someone has dug up one of the graves. It has been said that there were one hundred burials here, but there is certainly no indication of that at the present time.

In June 1983, a Texas historical marker, commemorating the cemetery, was erected near Joel Snider's stone, but no clean-up nor restoration work was done. In the fall of 1984, the Tarrant County Historical Commission erected a chain link fence around the cemetery.

[The stone is broken so the birthdate cannot be read, but according to the 1850 Shelby County, Texas census, he was born in 1804.]

[Second husband of Margaret Snider. There is one stone for both husband and wife, which is broken and sits loose on a little pedestal.]
