DeLeon Plaza and Bandstand, originally known as 'Plaza de la Constitucion',
was one of four public squares set aside by colony founder Martin de Leon.

The area that is now Victoria County is one of the oldest communties in Texas, first settled by Spain in 1722 and the city was named by Martin de Leon for General Guadalupe Victoria in 1824; General Victoria became the first president of independent Mexico. The county seat, Victoria is the cathedral city of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Victoria.
